Applications for Exhibiting in 2017 are now CLOSED
The Contemporary Craft Festival has become one of the largest and most prestigious shows to be part of in the UK. The online application forms for 2017 are now Live. Use the Exhibitor signup to be emailed reminders when to apply. Stand packages start from £420 + VAT in the Festival marquees and £220 + VAT for StartUP.
With a lively and inspirational atmosphere, the Festival has built up a loyal following of 10000 visitors and we represent nearly 200 of the UK’s finest designer makers from across Britain & Ireland. The event is set in a marquee village in idyllic parkland on the edge of Dartmoor in South Devon with excellent transport links via road, train and air. All exhibitors are selected for quality by a panel of industry professionals.
Start Up is a dedicated marquee for makers who have been in business for 2 years or less (Since January 2015). It will showcase approximately 20 makers. Our aim is to support fledgling careers and to encourage and promote the wealth of creative talent we have in the UK. Stands in the StartUp section are offered at much reduced rate to The Contemporary Craft Festival's main marquee and create an outstanding opportunity for businesses of two years or less ( For next year, Business must have started since January 2015). You are a graduate or self taught and out of formal training.
Applications are open from Mid September to end November. Only online applications will be accepted. There is a simple online application form to use. There is a non-refundable administration fee of £15 to apply. Start Up is open from September to January, £5 application fee.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?
All Applications criteria: You are resident in the UK or Ireland. Your work shows a dedication to quality of making, presentation and originality.
You make any of the following: Ceramics, Glass, Textiles, Jewellery, Metal, Wood/Furniture, Plastics, Mixed Media, Leather, Recycled Materials and Paper or Prints. No painting, photography, graphic design or musical instruments. Greetings cards are accepted as part of the range but not the sole product. Stand sharing is not permitted.
StartUp Application Criteria: You are a graduate or self taught (students still in education at January 27, 2017 deadline may not apply). Your work is in any of the above mediums and you are in the first 2 years of business which commenced after January 1st 2015. Previous exhibitors of One Year On & Start UP 2016 may not apply.

TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL IMAGES
Quality of images is often a reason why good makers don't get selected. Is your image sharp and in focus? Can you clearly see the object? Avoid distracting backgrounds. Make sure the image isn't too dark or too light. Please think about what your selected images say about your work. Don’t be tempted to send in contrasting pictures of different ranges. Selectors prefer to see a coherent body of work. The selection of images you choose will also be used for promotional purposes and all images will need to be good quality and clear. The 72dpi images will be used for presentation to the Selection Panel. All six images will be projected to the selection panel at the same time. The 300dpi images will be used for promotional purposes.
You wil need to upload Six 72dpi low resolution and Six 300dpi high resolution images for selection, via our online application form. Each image should be labelled with your name For example: Jane Smith 72.jpg and Jane Smith 300.jpg.
Digital images must be saved as JPEG files and should have the suffix .jpg They should be the same images in 72 and 300dpi. Your 72dpi images should be approx 6 x 9cm. The ideal size for your 72dpi images is 480pixels wide. Your 300dpi, 30 x 40cm max. Your application must be received by 6pm on November 25th 2016. Late applications will not be accepted.
I can't change the dpi
Most cameras are set up to take images in 300dpi which is a high resolution suitable for printing. 72dpi is a standard lower resolution size suitable for emailing or viewing on a screen. Remember you can always reduce the resolution and file size but you will not be able to increase it. If you dont use a programme that allows you to change the dpi such as Photopshop, this is not essential. However you will still need reduce the file sizes to under 600KB in order to upload them onto our system. You should be able to do this using any Mac or Microsoft picture editor programme with either an edit or resize function. On our website we use a size of 480px wide on the shortest side. This shoud bring your images under 600KB and still a good quality for a powerpoint presentation.
My images do not work in your dimensions
The dimensions are a guide only. If you are not happy with the quality in these dimensions by all means make them a little larger. Try not to much larger than 30 x 40cm. If your application is successful your images will be resized to 480 pixels (on shortest side) for our website. They may be square, landscape or portrait. If you cannot resize your images in cm, please resize them to 480 pixels on the shortest side and this will usually bring them under 600Kb and a good quality for viewing on a screen.
We still recieve many images around 100cm that have not been resized. In reality this size is suitable for billboard adverts but is much too big for selection purposes and cause our computers to crash. Please try to keep you low res images no bigger than 30 x 40cm (or A4). Please help us by resizing them - We have nearly 3,000 individual images to download !
If you really cannot reduce your image size make sure your application arrives well in advance of the deadline so that we have time to work on them.
I have changed the images to jpgs but they are still unacceptable
Check they have really converted to jpg - Open in properties and check there are no words or letters after the file extension .jpg In most cases this can be solved by renaming the image xxxx.jpg
My images have uploaded but the form will not submit/ the form freezes on a certain box
Another application is being uploaded at the same time. Try again in a few minutes. This happens alot as we approach the deadline - again we advise getting your application in early to avoid frustration!
Can I apply for Start Up & the Contemporay Craft Festival?
We recommend that you apply in both areas as there are just 20 stands that can be allocated in StartUP.
If you are successful in both sections you will be able to choose which section you would like to go in.
I am not an applied arts Graduate, can I apply for Start Up?
You do not have to have completed formal higher education studies to apply - you may be self taught, have trained abroad or come through an apprenticeship scheme. (You may not apply if you are still a student).
I am interested in having a Trade Stand
Our Making & Materials area is a carefully hand picked selection of businesses that will complement our main exhibitor marquees. If you sell artists materials, Arts & Crafts publications and magazines or want to promote a Craft Organisation please get in touch, particularly those from the West Country. There is a short application process during the January before the show. Please note we do not accept applications from individual Designer Makers in this part of the Festival.
Is my business eligible for StartUP?
You can apply for StartUP if your business is in the first 2 years of business. e.g for 2017, your business needed to have started up since January 2015. Undergraduates are not eligible. For eligibility criteria see application form.
I exhibited in StartUP, am I eligible to apply for StartUP this year?
Unfortunately, if you have previously exhibited in One Year On or StartUP you are not eligible to apply in this section.

Your application fee is non-refundable and helps us cover the cost of administration and expenses for a selection day with an invited expert panel.
