Katie Honnor from madebyhandonline chooses her 5 Festival Favourites
Written: 19 May 2016
The Festival is a really significant event for madebyhandonline and for me personally. Lots of our makers exhibit at the show and it’s great to be able to catch up with them both professionally and socially. As a sponsor and judge I love to be able to discover new makers, and I can’t help but have my shopping head on at all times! I’m looking forward to seeing everything - it’s been very tricky to just choose 5…
I was very lucky to have been given one of Anne’s Erosion necklaces recently and I have my eye on her earrings. I love the way she combines soft, feminine stones with graphic shapes and edgy, textured oxidized silver.
There are so many ceramicists I’m looking forward to seeing this year! I’ve admired James and Tilla’s work at different shows and I bought a stoneware coffee mug from them recently at Ceramic Art London (perfect form and simple decoration). It took me a while to choose so I’m excited to be seeing them again at the Festival!
Basket weaver Annemarie and ceramicist Elaine are demonstrating at the Festival as part of their ‘Making Ground’ project. They’ve been working from disused brickworks in East Sussex, sourcing their materials as well as their inspiration. I love their work individually so I’m really interested to see their collaborative work.
My father-in-law is a printmaker so I’m naturally drawn to prints and mark-making, and the wealth of surface textures created by different printmaking techniques. I know Sue’s fantastic collagraphs, but I haven’t seen her enamel work before.
Adam’s sculptural vessels are so cleverly simple – they truly celebrate the material and let the wood do the talking, yet involve a huge amount of skill. I’ve loved watching his work develop over the year and am looking forward to seeing what he has in store for the Festival this year.
Meet all these makers at The Contemporary Craft Festival, Mill Marsh Park, Bovey Tracey, Devon, UK
